Little Tikes Easy Store Large Picnic Table with Umbrella
These are a few of my favorite things...
The book -I call it My He'art' book - is a part of the reading center and they like to look through it from time to time. Then at the end of the year we go back and look at all things they created for me. It ends up being a good record of all the kiddos I have loved over the years. When a student gets stuck on a letter in a word, I usually hum a super-hero like tune and peek the tricky letter over the top to give them a hint. I tape the art to my desk and then on Friday, I put the art in the book. I use it during whole group working with words activities and small group reading activities. The kids thought a leprechaun was hiding in the cabinet, had slipped under the door, and every little thing was his fault (even if it was like that before). I also add the class picture when that comes in to the beginning of the book and pictures from field trips or parties throughout the year. It's sooooo convenient - I usually just sit it right on my lap with the letters facing me and the blank pockets facing my students where I build the words. I made the the little leprechaun feet for my first graders, too. I don't scrap per se, just glue or tape the art to the scrap page. The little guy even "trashed" the classroom. I keep these in my house and bring them out during meet the teacher night or open house. I get a big scrapbook each year and buy add on pages. Guess that's why I LOVE teaching first grade.
