Mulcahey Elementary School received a makeover on April 14 as nearly 100 volunteers participated in an Outreach to Teach community service project run by the Bridgewater State University chapter of the Student Education Association of Massachusetts (SEAM).
“(SEAM) is a student led group,” Kathryn Bolduc, vice-president of the BSU chapter of SEAM said. “We have chapters at all different state colleges and universities… SEAM reaches out to one school each year.”
In only its third year of existence, BSU’s SEAM chapter hosted the statewide Outreach to Teach event, and more than 50 students from BSU and 18 from Westfield State University and other state colleges and universities descended on Mulcahey School to help in its transition from a middle school to an elementary school. About 30 volunteers from Stop and Shop stores throughout Southeastern Massachusetts also helped out with the day’s activities.
“It’s overwhelming the amount of people that are here, and Stop and Shop has helped us so much,” Bolduc said.
